How Is the New SAT Scored SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips The scoring model on the new SAT differs significantly from the scoring model that was used on the old version of the test. It's important to be aware of these changes so that you can plan your studying and test-taking strategies accordingly. In this article, I'll go through all the scoring differences that have taken place for the new SAT and what they mean for you as a student. Main Scoring Differences The biggest change in the new SAT scoring structure is that it uses a 1600 point scale instead of a 2400 point scale.The Math section is still worth 800 points.The Reading and Writing sections together are called â€Å"Evidence-Based Reading and Writing† and account for the other 800 points.The essay is optional and scored separately from the multiple choice portions of the test (your essay scoredoesn't affectyour Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score). Another difference in the scoring methodology isthe elimination of point deductions for wrong answers.On the old SAT, you were docked a quarter of a point for every question you answered incorrectly.The SAT is now more like the ACT in that incorrect answers are treated the same as questions that were left blank (no points added or subtracted). There are alsofour answer choices for each question now rather than five. What Does This Mean for You? Since there’s no guessing penalty, you don’t have to worry about whether you should guess or leave a question blank on the test.Guessing is always the right choice! The switch to a 1600 scale shouldn’t impact you unless you’re trying to compare your scores out of 2400 on the old SAT to scores on the new version.This may be a concern if you want to know how much you’ll need to improve to get a score on the new SAT that’s equivalent to your goal score on the old SAT. Here's a chart thatwill help you convert your current or older scores to their equivalent numbers on the new SAT. However, keep in mind that the latest scoring model gives more weight to Math score. On the old SAT, Math only made up one-third of your total score. On the new SAT, it makes up half. This could mean that students who are especially strong in Math will do better on the new SAT by 50 or so points. If you scored an 800 on Math and a 650 on both Reading and Writing on the old SAT, you would have a composite score of 2100. Assuming you continued to stay at the same level upon taking the new SAT, an 800 in Math and a 650 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section would give you a 1450. This score is 50 points higher than the 1400 you would predict for yourself if you multiplied 2100 by two-thirds for a direct conversion to the new scale. Most colleges will accept scores from both the current SAT and the new SAT for at least a couple of years. The College Board will provide colleges with concordance tables to help them judge and compare scores across the two different tests. Also,score choiceis still an option, so you don’t have to worry about that changing with the updated test. They are of the view that that competition can result in nervousness with high anxiety levels, lesser productivity, de-motivation by those who believe they have no chance of winning, extrinsic motivation, contingent self-esteem that goes up and down depending on how one's performance compares with that of others, bad relationships, aggression toward others in an attempt to win at all costs, and fraud. "The outcomes of co mpetition are seen as so destructive by some individuals that they have proposed eliminating it altogether, especially from the workplace" (Maehr & Midgley 399-427). But the success stories of different organisations tell us that competitive experiences have always been perceived to be healthy for businesses. The macroeconomic theory of global trade recognizes competition as a driving force. Boehm develops a framework for five forces driving competition among human service organisations: (1) rivalry among existing organisations; (2) the presence of substitute services in the market; (3) the bargaining power of suppliers; (4) the bargaining power of consumers; (5) the threat of entrance by new organisations (Boehm 61-78). In the international trade nations cannot have competitive advantage in all goods and services, but they have to compete with others even in fields of their excellence. According to the story of global version of competition, the signals that organisations receive have a restricted interpretation. Firms are caught in an algorithm that demands top interests of stockholder. In result, firms adopt a strategy of raising productivity and reducing the cost. A nexus is depicted between signals, incentives and rational behaviour. Signals acquire the form of relative prices. Profits provide the inducement to perform on signals. To behave rationally is to reply with an action to them. In Barrie Jean Borich’s Restoring the Color of Roses, she presents the reader with a somewhat unstable and sometimes scary family situation. Through her narrative, Borich proves that this type of environment is destructive for a growing girl. With most of her family, Barrie is unable to be her true self. Her mother is not comfortable with Barrie’s lesbianism. In Slouching towards Chicago, Barrie has a conversation with her mother that reveals her mother’s attitude towards her sexuality. Her mother asks her if she’d ever â€Å"do things† with women (21). Barrie’s internal response to this question was, â€Å"And now the implications are clear. Not only will I do it, I will be it. And this is what I didn’t get before. People are going to hate me for this† (21). She can not be completely comfortable with who she is because she does not exist in a supportive family environment. She feels people are going to hate her for her homosexuality. This type of family situation is detrimental to the development of a growing girl. Another aspect of Barrie’s family life that is destructive towards her development is the issue of self confidence and body image. In A Body’s Documentary, moments appear where Barrie’s self image is damaged by her family. One such occasion is when her father got angry and broke a plate because Barrie â€Å"never talk[ed]† and was just like her mother, resulting in Barrie questioning her features and becoming extra self-conscious of them (38). Immediately following that incident, Barrie talks about preparing for picture day: â€Å"On picture day I could not find an outfit that would make my body disappear, but in the back row, at least, my sausage thighs could hide. I could only pray my nose would shrink beneath the crown of my new bangs† (38). She has a very negative opinion of herself. Obviously this self confidence issue stems directly from her father’s comments. Barrie’s mother also shares some of the responsibility f or Barrie’s self esteem.

Thinking about how to approach work in 2013, I recenter back to trying to make a sustainable difference in the long term trajectory of Cokes business in the US. It is not easy and it does require hard work. I have to accept our environment â€Å"where it is† as well as being OK with my place in it. I need to remember that I am in a place where I can influence things in a positive direction. Three things are important to remember: most of our people do want to do the right thing, most are looking to make a difference, and most have a blind spot. So, I am like most people. It means I want clarity on what the right thing is, I want to contribute, and I need feedback. We also need to recognize that most folks feel like they have been trying to go down this path. So, work going forward needs to show respect to the work already on the field. Not to accpet it 100% carte blanche, but to start by understanding what it is trying to do and its success so far. It was not until years later that I was told all of the stories about what a terrible driver my grandmother was and how many cars she destroyed in various incidents, as my grandfather calls them. We reached the hospital in plenty of time, but with one problem remaining, my grandfather and dad remained uninformed and unreachable as the resided among thousands of intoxicated football fans.
